The Thyssen workbench is constructed from a 7″ x 12″ by 11-foot long aluminum I-beam left at the worksite of a low-rise condominium complex. When installing a new elevator, Thyssen places the I-beam across the elevator shaft to install the rigging. Fortunately for me, Thyssen failed to retrieve the I-beam from a condo complex built by a good friend (and general contractor). The GC was also the one to suggest I build a workbench out of this fine piece of probably very expensive metal.
